Christopher Frank Carandini Lee is one of the oldest actors that Hollywood history knows of, who is still making his presence memorable and enjoyable. Best known for his villainous roles back in the 50s to the 70s, Christopher Lee was the Count Dracula icon that existed back in the 60s and the 70s. To this day Lee has starred in over 220 films within the last 4 decades. Most of his roles are dark, villainous and disturbing to watch, but his effort put into his roles are impeccable.
Lee played the role of Count Dracula on the Hammer Series movie ‘Count Dracula’ in 1958. His performance and love to the role made him do eight more movies playing the same role. Lee also starred in the 1974 James Bond movie ‘The man with the Golden Gun’. This role is said to have originally gone on to Jack Nicholson who was unable to take it up at that time.
Christopher Lee could be considered as one of those actors who likes to take up roles due to the complexity and uniqueness existent in it. This is evident in movies such as ‘Jinnah’, where he plays the role of Mahommed Ali Jinnah, who is responsible for modern Pakistan. In 1999, his career picked up again to attract roles in more commercial movies such as ‘Sleepy Hollow’. In 2000 he starred as the evil Wizard Saruman in the critically acclaimed Lords of the rings; Fellowship of the ring and The two Towers. He was originally chosen to play the role of Gandalf, which was later given away to Sir Ian McKellen. Lee by nature is a Lord of the rings enthusiast who performed on the Lord of Rings Songs and Peoms by J. R. R. Tolkien in 2003 and is said to have met Tolkien the man himself.
The heat that was built around Lee after his work on the Lord of rings attracted george Lucas to ask him to play the role of Lord Sith Count Dooku, a name chosen to reflect his old school name Count Dracula. Lee played the role of Count Dooku in ‘Star Wars Episode II; The attack of the Clones’ and ‘Star Wars Episode III; Revenge of the Sith’. Lee, in his 80s still seems to impress the entertainment industry with his unique acting style and his eagerness to take on the darker side of characters. Despite his critically acclaimed career, Lee has never been nominated for an Academy Award.
