Leonard Gary Oldman is an English actor and Director, who has starred in many villainous roles and has stayed memorable among many movie enthusiasts. Gary earned his BA in drama at the Rose Bruford College in 1979 which led him into a strong career on stage towards the early 80s. Gary made his first appearance in film in the 1982 production ‘Remembrance’.
His performance on his debut movie and his appearance on TV led him to do his first ever starring role in the 1986 classic ‘Sid and Nancy’. He plays the role of real time Sex Pistons Bassist Sid Vicious, who is responsible for the Punk rock movement in the early 80s. His excellence in this earned him the roles to many other movies that brought him out into the spot light. Some of these that could be mentioned are ‘Prick up your ears’, ‘Criminal Law’ and ‘the firm’. Later in 1992, he was called in by award wining director Francis Ford Coppolla to star as Dracula in ‘Bram Stroker’s: Dracula’. He played the role of Ludwig Van Beethoven in the 1994 film ‘Immortal Beloved’, and continued his villainous characters through out.
In 1997, he appeared in two well received movies, ‘The fifth element’ and ‘Air Force one’. In 2001, he starred with Anthony Hopkins for the second time, after Dracula to play the role of a disfigured pedophile in ‘Hannibal’. His recent appearances are in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies where he voices the role of Sirius Black, and in Chris Nolan’s Batman Begins, which he will be continuing to do in 2008s ‘the dark knight’.
Gary was married and divorced thrice to Lesley Manville, Uma Thurman and Donya Fiorentino. He is the father of three kids.
