Born in 1930, Gene Hackman is a two time Academy Award winning American Actor who has been in the showbiz industry for the past four decades. He is also close friends with fellow actors Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall, who struggled along with him to become actors in New York City during the 60s.
When Hackman joined Pasadena Playhouse to become an actor he was already over 30 years of age. After a rough patch, Hackman started doing off-broadway plays which led him into the film industry. In 1964, he played a minor role in ‘Lilith’ alongside Warren Beatty, and later in 1967 he was nominated for an Academy award as best supporting actor for his performance on ‘Bonnie and Clyde’.
It was in 1971 that Gene Hackman played his most memorable role in ‘The French Connection’ as inspector Popeye Doyle. He plays the main character who chases a bunch drug dealers. His performances attracted Francis Ford Coppola who further raised his profile by letting him play the leading role in ‘The Conversation’. Through out his career Hackman has done some very impressive roles including playing Lex Luther in ‘Superman I & II’.
In 2000 he appeared in ‘Heist’, where he plays the role of an aging veteran thief who is forced to take in one final heist. In 2004, he said that his acting career is over in an interview with Larry King on CNN. Even though he says so, Hackman has contributed a lot to the Film industry and his work is well praised by many around the world.
