John Joseph Travolta, is one of Hollywood’s revolutionary actors out there. From action hero to the guy next door, he’s done it all. His acting career splintered with movies like ‘Saturday night Live’ and ‘Grease’, where he was even regarded as a singer as well. Born in 1954, in New Jersey Travolta came from a family well established in the showbiz Industry. His mother was a popular actress and singer back in the days by the name Helen Cecilia Burke who is said to have Travolta influenced into acting.
In the 70s, Travolta was regarded as a Disco icon, which is the same title that led him through a rough patch in his acting career during the late 70s and early 80s. He lost roles in movies like ‘an officer and a gentlemen’ and ‘American Gigolo’ to renown actor Richard Gere. This happened again in 2002 when he was also chosen for the role of Billy Flynn in the renowned feature film ‘Chicago’.
In 1994 is when John Travolta brought out the gangster in him in the Quentin Tarrantino’s second creation ‘Pulpfiction’. A movie admired by many for the starring performance of Travolta, Samueal L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Ving Rhames, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Christopher Walken. Travolta won an Academy award for the role of best actor for the very same movie. This is where his career started booming again. This led him into ‘Get Shorty’, the 1995 comedy that was got his name running again.
Throughout the late nineties Travolta worked with talented directors to stay on top. In 1997 he worked with popular director John Woo, for the well acclaimed film, ‘face/off’. He plays the role of a detective seeking vengeance for his lost son, and also the role of a terrorist who is trying to blow up a city. His roles in movies started getting even serious when he did ‘A Civil Action’, where he plays the role of a lawyer and a military detective in the movie ‘The General’s Daughter’.
Being a Scientologist Travolta was well in favor of the movie ‘Battlefield’, which was recorded as the worst movie in the year 2000 by the Razzie Award. Nevertheless, 2003’s ‘Basic’, where he partners again with Samueal L. Jackson, was a great success. Prior to this he stared as the villain alongside Hale Berry and Hugh Jackman in the 2001 hit movie ‘Swordfish’. Travolta again was showing off his acting skills in movies like, ‘A love song for Bobby Long’, ‘The Punisher’, ‘Ladder 49’, and he repeated his role as Chili Palmer in the sequel to ‘Get Shorty’ – ‘Be Cool’ in 2005.
His last release on big screen was ‘Wild Hogs’, a comedy with Martin Lawrence, Tim Allen, and William H Macy. He plays the role of a bankrupt businessman who takes the road of a Biker, to escape his real life. John Travolta is happily married to Kelly Preston, with whom he has had two kids Jeff and Ella. Travolta is one of the few actors who has the license to fly and owns five airplanes.
