Marlon Brando, Jr. was a legend that took Hollywood by storm. He was one the first actors ever to implement method acting techniques for his roles, which is religiously followed by today’s popular actors like Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Marlon was born in 1924 in Nebraska to Dutch and Irish parents. His father, Marlon Sr. was a gifted amateur photographer and his mother Dorothy Pennebaker "Dodie" Brando, was an actress and an administrator in local theater and also an active member of the Alcoholics Anonymous. Most of Marlon’s childhood was spent with his mother from whom he adapted most of his lifestyle.
Marlon started off his acting career by playing various stage plays. This is where he played the role of Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar Named Desire. He first ever screen appearance was in 1950 in the movie ‘The Men’. Later he took his favorite stage play role of Stanley Kowalski to the screen in the 1951 film release of Tennessee Williams' play ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. His skills were very well recognized and he is still remembered for this role.
Later Marlon went on to play some very interesting roles in many movies, this includes playing Mark Anthony in 1953’s ‘Julius Caesar’, a rock n’ roll rebel in ‘The wild One’, a romantic thus in ‘On the waterfront’ and a romantic comedian in Charles Chaplin’s ‘The countess from Hong Kong’. His most Iconic role was in 1972. when he starred as Don Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘The Godfather’. He plays the role with then rising star Al Pacino who plays the role of Michael Corleone. Throughout the 70s Marlon has chosen many controversial roles where his acting methods not only amused the audience but made them think that Marlon was born to do such roles. For instance in 1979, he plays the role of a warped General who deserts the American army and forms his own kingdom inside the forests of Cambodia, in yet another Coppola movie – ‘Apocalypse Now’.
In real life Marlon is active supporter of the American Civil rights and American Indian movement. He was recorded at number 04 among the greatest actors of all time by the American Film institute. Having had a fruitful acting career and a rebellious way of life, Marlon also went through four marriages. He was the father of 11 children out of which three were adopted by him. On July 1, 2004, Marlon died at the age of 80. His cause of death was not revealed to the media initially but was later found that he died of respiratory failure and also was diagnosed with liver cancer.
